Kisii – KENYA

Kenya, it’s beautiful landscape and beautiful people are all real. They are living and breathing right now just like you and me. The difference is that we have the love of our families and more than enough money to feed ourselves.

People Of Kenya

The people of Kenya are also beautiful. These are pictures of a Maasai man and woman in their traditional attire. But these people have a horrible problem they are facing.

HIV / AIDS

The deadly disease of AIDS is causing many of the adults to die before their children havegrown up. This is because there is no known vaccine or cure for HIV or AIDS. There are 12 million children in Sub-Saharan Africa who have been orphaned by AIDS, many of those live in Kenya.

Children Of Kenya

These children have it even harder than children in some other countries because of endemic poverty in Kenya. Without their parents to look afterthem, they have to live with grand parents oraunts and uncles (if they have survived). These relatives areusually too poor to afford the cost of looking after these extra children. Often the older children have to work and care for the younger ones, and miss out on vital schooling.

Betty

Betty Hewitt lives in Kenya, in a district called Gucha. She has a clinic there, and has been working with people of who have AIDS for many years.

Gucha Orphanage

Last year, the Chief of the area left 85 abandoned children at her clinic. Each one has lost both of their parents to AIDS.

Now Betty is trying to help these children by feeding, clothing, housing and educating them. Right now they are all sleeping on the floor of her clinic.

Betty has been managing to feed each child for only 50 pence a day. 50 pence a day, that is like trying so survive the whole day on less money that it takes to buy most chocolate bars.

Here are some of the children . Although they really need an orphanage built, the immediate problem is that the Betty has run out of money to feed them.

It is only thanks to last minute donations by Betty’s family members and church friends they have food for the rest of this month.

It costs £15 a month to feed just one child. That’s only 50 pence a day, the price of a newspaper, but it will allow her to continue to feed one of the boys or girls that she is looking after. Any donations will be most welcome and most appreciated.

They will all go straight to the Orphanage. Due to the unrest in Kenya, we are getting afantastic rate for every British pound donated at this time. What we are trying to do is make sure that these children

have the food they need while Betty works on trying to get them a building to live in, a reliable source of clean water , sanitation, electricity, and continuing to ensure they receive a basic education.
